Anorexia En Caninos

Anorexia (en caninos) is an eating disorder which affects people in every country around the world although it affects more people in the western countries more than anywhere else in the world. Our society is to blame for the majority of the anorexia, bulimic, and other eating disorder cases. At least the pressure from our society is too much for some of our kids and is one of the main causes for eating disorders. Mix that with low self esteem or peer pressure, or maybe abuse, and you have a very dangerous combination. Some people even have a genetic trait to influence the problem if there is another family member who has an eating disorder too. People see the skinny models, actresses, actors, athletes, singers, and other celebrities that they look up to and they feel that their thinness is why they are succeeding in life. Many feel that the only way to get ahead is to lose weight and look like the models, actresses, etc. They have such a low self esteem that they think they will feel better about themselves if they lose weight and become skinny like the pictures and television models and actors they see. Some have peer pressure and are called names, made fun of, or are abused.

Over eight million people have been diagnosed with anorexia and other eating disorders Of these, the majority are between the ages of 10 and 20 with the average being 17. There are a few that are under the age of 10 but they are very rare, There are also others in their 70's who suffer from the disorder. The majority of those who die are over 70 and are male victims. Anorexia and other eating disorders can happen at any age but teens seem to be the most affected. They are very vulnerable and when they see someone that they admire such as a model, movie star, singer, athlete, etc., they are going to be the most likely to try to look like them because they think they have to look that way in order to succeed. It is a shame that society screams ‘skinny’ all of the time and even the actresses feel the pressure when they gain a few pounds. Some are threatened to lose their jobs or not get a part if they do not lose weight. This is a shame because there are some beautiful people who have lost their lives or become very ill, or committed suicide because they felt they were overweight, according to society’s principles. The public needs to wake up and get educated on the dangers of anorexia and other eating disorders. Know the signs and symptoms so they can help those who are suffering.
