Anorexia Esportica Anorexia esportica. It does not matter what country you live in you can develop anorexia or some other eating disease. There are many people diagnosed with anorexia today because there is so much pressure put on the public to be thin. It is not just a matter of losing a few pounds for some. Some people cannot cope with the peer pressure, culture, and if they also have a family member with an eating disorder, they have three strikes against them. Add to this mix a low self esteem and you have the formula for disaster. Eating disorders are very common today because of the way we get the skinny pictures of models, actresses, actors, singers, and other celebrities shoved in our faces constantly on billboards, television, magazines, and even on the sides of some buses. We are given the notion that in order to succeed, we have to be skinny. To those who have a lot of peer pressure and low self esteem, this means they need to lose a lot of weight, and fast! They will go on a strict diet or not eat at all, and maybe even exercise excessively in order to drop the pounds as fast as possible. These actions cause a great strain on the body and eventually there is a lot of serious damage done to some of the vital organs of the body. Anorexia can damage all organs of the body. When people decide to lose weight, they need to get help from a doctor or work with someone else who is losing weight too. If you work together you can keep it safe and support each other. Those who are suffering from anorexia often look in the mirror and always see themselves as fat because the brain tells them that they are fat, even when they are underweight. The heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, bones, and other parts of the body will be affected by anorexia. It gets to a point where the anorexia is controlling the victim instead of them controlling it. They do not want to admit they have a problem until they begin to have health problems which demand doctors assistance. By this time, in many cases, there is some major damage done to some of the vital organs and some of the damage may not be repaired. Anorexic victims will try to hide their thinness and other signs and symptoms for as long as they can. They will wear layered or baggy clothing in order to hide the signs. They have to want help and have to realize that they have a major problem that needs diagnosed and treated. It takes a long time to recover from anorexia and in some cases part of the damage will stay with the victim for the rest of their lives. It is hopeful that they receive help in time before it causes so much damage that death soon follows. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
