Anorexia Graphs You can find anorexia graphs, charts, and other statistics online by doing a search on the some of the popular search engines. One study has the following information and graphs: http://ajp.psychiatryonline.org/cgi/reprint/159/3/412.pdf. More grids and graphs can be found here: http://ksi.cpsc.ucalgary.ca/KAW/KAW98/delugach/. There are other graphs, charts, and a lot of information about anorexia and other eating disorders online. There needs to be a lot more scientific study done in order to save more people from this dreaded disease. It does damage to the brain, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, and every other organ in the body. There are many symptoms and signs of an eating disorder but in many cases they are kept hidden by the victim until their health begins to give out on them. By the time many anorexic patients are diagnosed and receive treatment, there has been a lot of major damage done to these organs. Some of the damage can not be repaired. The treatment of anorexia involves both medications and psychological help. An anorexic victim see themselves as fat even after they pass the safe weight limit for their size. The are underweight and are very undernourished because they eat very little and not what they should eat. They put a big strain on their vital organs and they develop severe health issues because of it. Anorexia was first described in 1684 but was not identified and described with its own diagnosis as a disease until 1870. Even then there was not much scientific study done on the disease. It was not until Karen Carpenter (famous singer in the 70's and 80's) died from complications of anorexia that more study was done on the disease. In 1978 a psychologist, Hilde Bruch, published a book about anorexia. It was based on 70 cases of anorexia which included mostly young women. Their testimonials were included in the book. The disease is most common in the western world but is a problem all over the world. Today there are more doctors and psychologists that are qualified to deal with the disease. There are over 8 million diagnosed cases of anorexia and other eating disorders across the nation so there are probablu just as many not yet diagnosed. Around one million of these are males and the rest are females. The majority of the cases are between the ages of 10 and 20 years old but there are a few younger than 10 and some older than 20. There are some who are senior citizens and most of these cases are men. This may surprise some people because many feel that it is a disease that only young people suffer from.
