Anorexia Nervosa Penyakit Anorexia Nervosa Penyakit. Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder in many countries and described and diagnosed in many different languages. There are over 8 million diagnosed victims in the United States with anorexia nervosa and other eating disorders. About 1 million of those are male and about 7 million are females. The average age of anorexia patients are 17 years old. The majority of people suffering from anorexia are between the ages of 10 and 20. Young people are so vulnerable and are faced with a lot of peer pressure and sociological standards that they feel they have to live up to. Many of them can not control their actions and are so desperate to belong with the ‘in crowd’ or become the models, actors, actresses, singers, etc. They believe they have to be skinny in order to fit in. They will begin a diet innocent enough but before they know it they are exercising excessively, not eating or eating very little and eating food that is low in calories and fats. They are going to lose the weight as fast as they can and this puts a great strain on the vital parts of the body. Before the victim is aware of it, the anorexia is controlling them and even though they are not over weight, they still see themselves as fat when they look in the mirror. The brain, heart, kidneys, lungs, liver, and other parts of the body can be damaged. They can not be totally repaired in some cases if the disease has progressed to a very dangerous level. There are many possible signs and symptoms of anorexia and other eating disorders. The disease is thought to be caused by social and peer pressure, biological reasons (family member also suffers from an eating disorder), and psychological reasons (low self esteem, etc.). The victim will try to hide the signs and symptoms and the disease has often progressed to a dangerous level before it is discovered and the victim asks for help. In some cases death is the result because the heart and other vital organs can not take the stress and strain of the excess weight loss. Some signs and symptoms are low blood pressure, anemia, dizziness, fainting, fatigue, brittle nails, not eating, thinness, irregular heartbeat, thinning, breaking, and falling out of the hair, constipation, dry skin, dehydration, osteoporosis, excessive exercise, refusal to eat or not eating very much, absence of menstruation (in females), decrease in testosterone (in males), lung problems, bone loss (increasing the risk of fractures), anemia, heart problems such as mitral valve prolapse, abnormal heart rhythm and heart failure, bloating, nausea, low blood potassium, low sodium, and low chloride, and kidney and liver problems.
