Anorexia Nervosa Pictures

There are pictures of people who have suffered from anorexia nervosa online. You can do a search to find some. Just be prepared because they are not something that someone who has a weak stomach to see. It is very heartbreaking to see pictures like that and know that our culture is part of the cause of this disease. Anorexia nervosa is an eating disorder in which the victim feels that they have to lose weight and keep losing it because they continue to feel that they are fat no matter how much weight they have lost. The anorexia disease works on every organ of the body. It damages them and some of the damage is can not be reversed or repaired. It damages the mind, kidneys, heart, liver, and more. When an anorexic victim looks in the mirror (and they do it often) they see someone that is fat. They can weigh 100 pounds and they still look fat to themselves. There is a strong drive for them to keep losing more weight. The sad thing is that they can hide their symptoms and signs until some of the damage is already done before they admit they have a problem and are ready to get help. Friends and family who are around them sometimes do not know about the problem until the victim collapses, or some other serious health issue pops up.

There are over 8 million people diagnosed with an eating disorder. One million are male and seven million are female. There has never been so many people diagnosed with eating orders in the past. This also indicates that there are probably just as many that have not yet been diagnosed. The eating disorder problem was not truly recognized until the 1970's. Up until then there had been very little scientific studies on it and there still needs to be more studies so it can be diagnosed before the damage has been done instead of after the damage is done and for some it is too late to repair the damage. You can find stories of people who have suffered, and in some cases died, from anorexia online and see for yourself just how real it truly is. In a way it is like a slow suicide. The victim thinks that they need to lose weight and they just continue their routine (vomiting, purging, using laxatives or enemas, excessive exercise, etc.) even after they have lost enough weight to be in the healthy weight range. It is like a habit such as smoking or drinking because it works on the mind and when they look in the mirror they still see themselves as fat.
