Anorexia Nervosa Story

You can find a story about someone who suffered from anorexia nervosa online by doing a simple search. There are so many stories and they each are heartbreaking reading about what they victims went through. Some people did not live to tell their own story because the anorexia caused severe health issues that killed them. Karen Carpenter, a well known singer in the 70's and 80's lost her life because of anorexia when she experienced heart failure. She was on her way to recovering from anorexia but the damage had already been done and it took her life. She was only 33 years of age and had been dieting since 1967 when she was still a teen. She had been a ‘chubby’ teenager as her brother Richard put it and was always self conscious about her weight. At one point she got down to 80 pounds and she began having health issues so she sought help after she passed out on stage during a concert. She had gained weight ans was back up to 108 when she was found by her mother unconscious and rushed to a hospital where she died within an hour. She was a good example of what is expected of them when they are stars and the general public often feel that they need to look like the stars in order to belong with a group or ‘in crowd’. So much of the time the ordinary diet escalates and becomes an eating disorder that the victim can no longer control because it controls them. After a while the victim feels that they still need to lose weight because they still see themselves as fat.

Anorexia is sometimes referred to as the ’stars’ or ‘slimmers’ disease. We see the skinny models and actresses/actors on television and in magazines so many feel that we are supposed to look like that to get ahead in the world and to reach their goals in life. As some stress’slim is in’ and ‘fat is out’ so many people take this to heart and diet. Diet is good if you are overweight or obese but it should be stopped when the proper healthy weight is reached. That is where the trouble begins. Many with eating disorders want to keep losing weight so they are never overweight again so they stop eating or eat very little and use excessive exercise to help them achieve it.

You can do a search and read some of the stories of people who have had eating disorders and maybe learn from them or maybe you know someone with an eating disorder and you can help them by convincing them that they need help as soon as possible. Anorexia does damage to every organ in the body if it is allowed to progress
