Some of the lyrics go like this. “Please die Ana For as long as you’re here we’re not You make the sound of laughter And sharpened nails seem softer And I need you now somehow And I need you now somehow Open fire on the needs designed On my knees for you Open fire on my knees desires What I need from you” You can find the rest of the lyrics online. One of the singers in the band, Daniel Johns, suffered from anorexia and at one point did not believe he could recover from it and contemplated suicide. Daniel was just one of the many celebrities around the world that have suffered from an eating disorder because it was drilled into their heads that in order to succeed and stay ahead in life, they had to stay slim. Our society has been one of the main causes for many people suffering and dying from eating disorders. The need to get skinny and stay skinny has caused many people to suffer or die unnecessarily. Eating disorders have been described since 1684 but was not identified and diagnosed until the 1870 but not enough evidence and study was done on it to show that it was a problem. The idea of ‘being thin’ has become fashionable and many people do not know how to stop losing weight once they have reached their average weight for their height and build. They continue to see themselves as fat because their mind has been damaged and the anorexia is controlling them instead of them controlling it. There was not much study done on eating disorders until the 1970's. The disease was proven to be related to the culture we live in, hereditary, and psychological. The person suffering from anorexia might have symptoms stemmed from all three related causes. If they think they are overweight or fat, have a member of their family who also suffers from an eating disorder, and have a low self esteem, they will do what they have to get rid of the extra weight so they can ‘fit in’ to society. There are many dangerous health issues and even death caused by eating disorders if help is not received soon enough. Many times the damage is done to the vital parts of the body before the victim seeks medical help. The help they will need is both physical and mental. Even after one loses the eight they wanted to lose, they feel the need to keep going and lose more because their brain is telling them that they are still fat and they see themselves as fat when they look in the mirror.
