Atipusos Anorexia Nervosa Atipusos Anorexia Nervosa. No matter what language you are speaking, anorexia nervosa is a life threatening disease and has increased among the world population since as early as 1684. Anorexia has been identified and diagnosed for years but there was not much study done on the disease until the 1970's. It is stated that eating disorders such as anorexia are caused by three possible factors. There may be biological, psychological, and socioculture reasons for eating disorders. If there are other members of a family suffering from anorexia, another one may develop the same problem. There may be a problem of low self esteem and there is usually a lot of peer pressure or social pressure to lose weight. We are led to believe that being thin and staying thin is the way to succeed in life. It is not the answer to our problems no matter what society may think. We see actors, actresses, models, and other celebrities with thin bodies so we feel that is what we have to look like in order to succeed in life. It is not stressed to the people that it is the mind and the heart that really matters. There may be a need to lose weight in order to prevent health problems but it is not to get ahead in society. The most instances of anorexia are in young people between the ages of 10 and 20. There are a few under the age of 10 and some over the age of 20 but the majority are an average of 17 years old. There is no much peer pressure at that age that many young people become anorexic because they want to lose weight but cannot control it after they reach their designated weight. The anorexia controls them and they can not do anything until they admit that they have a problem and seek help. The sad thing about it is that there is a lot of damage done to the vital organs of the body before they realize that they do in fact have a problem. They will try to hide the signs and symptoms as long as they can. After they lose enough weight, the brain keeps telling them that they are still fat and when they look in the mirror, they see themselves as fat. Anorexia can cause damage to every vital organ in the body and not all of it can be reversed. The object is to seek help as soon as you can but so many of the people with anorexia suffer severe health problems before they admit they have a problem. They wear baggy clothes or layers of clothes to hide their thinness or weightloss and others around them may not be aware of the problem. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
