Daniel Johns Anorexia

Daniel Johns, a member of the music group “Silverchair” admitted that he had anorexia in the late 1990's and in 1999 the band had a hit single called “Anas Song” which was about Daniels fight with the eating disorder. Daniel Johns is an Australian singer and has had the eating disorder since he was a teenager. He was very reluctant to discuss his problem because men just do not admit they have a problem as much as women do, although most women will not admit it either until the damage to the vital organs force them to seek medical attention. Daniel considered food as his enemy. He said he felt that apples contained razor blades and all restaurant chefs were trying to poison him. This was his way to keep from eating. In his mind he needed to lose weight because he felt that he was fat and in order to keep from eating, he made up these excuses. Food was his enemy and he hated it. He couldn’t stand the smell of it and the look of it and if anyone talked about it, he left the room. Daniel felt like his life was out of control and this was his way to control it. Daniel got so severely ill with the disease that several doctors told him he was dying from it and he got treated for it. He did not know how he managed to live through it. It took a long time for him to recover from the anorexia. He felt like a slave to his music but he kept writing it. He even considered suicide at one point because for three or four years he hated himself. Daniel now has a wife and says he has an amazing life. He suffered from arthritis which went through all of his bones and left him almost paralyzed because he could not move because of the severe pain. He had 12 months of rehabilitation and made a full recovery. He is now back on tour and making music once again.

Daniel’s story is just one of the many you can read about on the internet. There are testimonials, sad stories, pictures, and a lot of information about anorexia and other eating disorders. If you think you know of someone who is suffering from anorexia or any other eating disorder, try to convince them to seek help. Do not wait until there is severe damage to their body that it might can be repaired. Anorexia causes severe problems to all of the vital organs in the body and if help is delayed too long, some of the damage can not be repaired and it may even cause death.
