Famous People With Anorexia There are some very famous people who have been diagnosed with anorexia and there may be some who have yet to be diagnosed because they do not want to admit they have a problem and have not tried to get help. Karen Carpenter (famous singer in the 70's and 80's with her brother Richard) died of complications of anorexia in 1983. Karen had been getting treatment for a long time but she still lost her life when she had a heart attack. Her body was just not strong enough to cope and the damage was just too extensive. It was after Karen died that more research was done on eating disorders and today there are treatment centers and qualified doctors to help anorexic victims. The big problem is that most of the victims deny that they even have a problem until damage has already been done to the vital organs of the body and some of the damage cannot be reversed. In 2004 the brunette twin of the famous Olsen twins, Mary Kate Olsen entered a treatment center for anorexia after a long time of denying she had a problem. Mary Kate may have gotten help soon enough to survive the disease but there may always be damage to some of her vital organs. Time will tell as far as that goes because treatment for anorexia is a long drawn out affair and it is very hard for the victims. The Olsen twins have been in television and movies since they were babies. Perhaps in the future they can be again. Daniel Johns, a famous singer in the group from Australia called “Silverchair” suffered from anorexia for a long time because he did not feel he could talk about it because he was a male. It is known that males suffer from anorexia too just as much as females, but not as many of them. One in every six people who suffer from anorexia are male. Some people are not aware of this. Daniel finally got treatment for his anorexia after he almost died. He suffered for a long time while in treatment but has now made a full recovery. In the late 90's Daniel had a hit song in which he talked about his experience with anorexia. It was called “Anas Song”. It talked about his fight with the disorder. Another famous person believed to be suffering from anorexia is the famous model Kate Moss. Kate denies having a problem but has lost so much weight (she was always skinny) that some are now saying that she is on drugs, she should be a poster child for ‘no drugs’, she looks dehydrated, her plastic bag is wider than she is, and when she turns sideways, she disappears. These are just a few comments made and time will tell if she seeks help or admits that she has an eating disorder. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
