Graphs on Anorexia

You can find graphs, charts, testimonials, stories, and reports on anorexia on many websites on the internet. All it takes is a quick search on one of the popular search engines.

Anorexia is a serious eating disorder in which there have been over 8 million diagnosed cases of eating disorders. Of the 8 million, over one million of the cases are male, the rest are female. Another report states that one in every 6 diagnosed victims of anorexia are male. Many people find this surprising because the majority are females and some did not know that men and boys often suffered from some form of eating disorder too. The average of those with anorexia are 17 years of age. The majority of people who suffer from anorexia are from 10 to 20 years of age. There are a few that are under 10 and quite a few that are over 20. Some are even senior citizens of which most of these are men. There are more males who suffer from an eating disorder than one might think. They have a lot of peer pressure just like women and girls do. Many of them want to be on some athletic team so they want to lose weight so they can make the team. They will exercise excessively and stop eating or eat very little in order to achieve their goal. After they have lost enough weight they keep going because they feel less is better. Their mind messes with them and when they look in the mirror, they see themselves as fat even when they are underweight. Most cases of both sexes hide their problems until they start having medical problems which have to be dealt with . The victim has to admit they actually have a problem before the treatments can be successful. They need medications and also psychological help.

In many cases there is damage to some of the vital organs in the body and in some cases the damage is so severe that all of it can not be repaired with treatment. The sooner the problem is diagnosed and treated, the better chances of survival and recovery. Anorexia can be fatal if there is enough damage done to the body. The main organs affected is the heart, lungs, brain, liver, and kidneys. There are other health problems too. Some may suffer from irregular heart beat, constipation, low blood pressure, abnormal blood count, dizziness, nausea, fainting, brittle nails, dry skin, dehydration, osteoporosis, hair that thins, breaks, or falls out, fatigue, menstruation cessation (in females). Decreased testosterone (in males), and more.
