La Anorexia

Anorexia (La Anorexia) is a very serious eating disorder in many countries and is discussed in many different languages. No matter where you live the eating disorder can be deadly if not diagnosed and treated in time. Anorexia causes damage to every vital organ of the body and if not treated in time the damage can not all be reversed. There have been deaths reported because the victim did not seek help soon enough and the body was not strong enough to survive. Often times there is heart failure. Many people often do not admit they have an eating disorder until the damage has already been done. The only way to help the victim is to get them help before too much damage has been done and this is often not easy. The victim is in denial and the anorexia is controlling their mind. They still see themselves as fat when they look in the mirror (and they do this often), even though they are underweight. They skip meals or eat very little and hide their thinness with layers of clothing or baggy clothing. There are many mental disorders as well as physical so when the victim seeks help they will need physical and mental aid. There may be heart problems, liver damage, kidney damage, lung problems, gastrointestinal problems, bone loss, and much more.

There are over 8 million people diagnosed with anorexia and other eating disorders across the nation and also problems in other countries. Anorexia was first described in 1684 but it was not until 1870 that it was actually identified and described as a disease with its own diagnosis. The way that women should look became the main reason for the disease. Our society has played a large part in the disease, if not the biggest problem. Young people have been led to believe that they have to be thin to succeed so it has led to the fast weightloss programs, excessive exercise, lack of eating, and any way to lose weight that they can think of. There is a lot of purging, using aids such as enemas and laxatives. The victims will hide their signs and symptoms to their eating disorder as long as they can. This is why the diagnose of the disease comes too late for many because the damage to the body has already been done before they seek help. After the diagnosis of the disease, there is a need for mental and physical help from doctors who are qualified to handle the disease. The medical bills can be very enormous and some insurances will not cover the problem because they do not recognize it as a disease. Often victims do not get the help they need because they cannot afford it. There are deaths and suicides associated with eating disorders and more scientific studies need to be done so the public can become more educated about the problem and know how to become aware of the signs and symptoms before the damage is done.
