Trends In Anorexia

Our society sets the trends that help cause anorexia in some victims. So many people feel that they have to be thin to ‘fit in’ or ‘belong’ in society and it is wrong. We have had so much pressure put on us by the skinny photos of models, movie stars, athletes, singers and other celebrities that some people can not cope. They begin to diet aggressively and exercise excessively until they have lost their desired weight. But the problem is that they lost it so fast it messed with their minds and they feel that they need to keep losing. No matter how many times they look in the mirror, they still see themselves as fat. They hide their thinness by wearing baggy or layered clothing and they hide other signs or symptoms until they have damaged vital organs in their body. If the victim of anorexia does not seek help in time the damage may not all be reversible. The victim has to admit they have a problem and after they have been diagnosed, they can get the treatment they need. The treatment needed for anorexia and other eating disorders include both medications and psychological help. It is a long drawn out affair and in some cases the victim may have health problems the rest of their lives because of the anorexia. Treatment for anorexia is very expensive some people can not get the treatment they need because they do not have insurance to cover it or they just cannot afford it.

There are treatment centers across the country for anorexia and other eating disorders. Some very famous people have received treatment for anorexia. The famous brown haired Olsen twin, Mary Kate, checked herself into a treatment center for anorexia in 2004. Karen Carpenter (famous singer in the 70's and 80's with her brother Richard) died from anorexia. Karen had been receiving treatment for a long time and was thought to be progressing very well when she suddenly died from a heart attack in 1983. Karen was only 32 years old and missed by many. Others who have suffered from anorexia are Daniel Johns, singer in the Silverchair band from Australia. He has made a complete recovery but he suffered for a long time while getting treatments. He developed arthritis so bad it was all over his body and his pain was so bad he could not move. He has fully recovered but many are not so lucky. Kate Moss (famous model) is said to have anorexia but she was denying it. Some say she has lost so much weight that when she turns sideways, she disappears and others say her plastic bag is wider than she is. Guess time will tell with her.
