Clinical Depression

Clinical depression is a condition of intense sadness or despair to the point where it has effected the person’s everyday life or social functions. This depression is different from everyday feelings of ‘being depressed’. Many people with clinical depression have feelings of sadness for no apparent reason, or have no motivation to do anything. Clinical depression is also known as severe depressive disorder or major depressive disorder. MDD as it is often known as, is a severely depressed mood that lasts for at least two weeks. It can present itself as a single episode or become recurrent events over a lifetime. It can also be divided into mild, major, or severe occurrences. The clinically depressed individual lacks interest in any of their normal everyday activities or social functions.

Depression is caused by a chemical imbalance in the brain and when some events happen in one’s life, this chemical imbalance can cause them to lose interest, become moody, have guilty feelings, have trouble concentrating or making decisions, have changes in their diet by overeating or not eating enough, resulting in weight loss or weight gain, lack of sleep or wanting to sleep too much, lack of energy and other symptoms. They might consider suicide or death, become irrate or just crawl into a shell and not socialize at all.

Depression can be controlled with the proper medications or therapy or in some cases of severe depression, both are necessary. There are alternative medicines one who is suffering from depression can take. There are also many prescription medications for different types of depression. Some of them may not work for some individuals or there may be side effects so it may take your doctor a while to get you the one which will work with your system. Different ingredients affect different people in different ways so what may be a good treatment for some may not be for others. Some of the alternative medications are Clarocet, Valerian Root, Passion Flower, St. John’s Wort, Hyperforin, and Kava Kava. These alternatives are for stress and anxiety, a sedative and mood stabilizer, and other depression disorders. Clarocet is a good alternative for children ages 7 to 13. It will make them feel better. Valerin Root is for stress and anxiety, and the Passion Flower acts as a sedative and mood stabilizer. Some of the prescription medications are Paxil, Prozac, Serzone, Doxepin, Tofranil, Vivactil, Wellbutrin, and Zoloft are just a few of the many available. Discuss the alternatives of taking alternate medications versus the prescriptions. Many times the prescription drugs could have severe side effects and generally the alternative natural medications such as St. Johns Wort will not have side effects because there are no synthetic drugs or caffeine, etc. added. The alternative medications are made from all natural sources and are generally much safer to take.
