Depression Medication If you are diagnosed by a doctor that you have a depression disorder, they may prescribe a medication for you to help you live as normal life as possible. There are many medications for Depression and the doctor will prescribe the one he/she thinks is the best one for you. Different medications work differently on different people so it may be necessary to change to another one if the prescription given you is not working for you. There are also alternatives to medication for depression and sometimes more than medications are necessary to get you back to where you need to be. More than one treatment may be necessary. Therapy as well as medication together may be necessary in severe cases. Some of the medications given to patients with Depression are: Nortriptyline, Parnate (MAOI), Tranylcypromine, Paxil (SSRI), Paroxetine, Pertofrane, Desiparmine, Prozac (SSRI), Fluoxetine, Remeron, Mirtazapine, Serzone, Nefazodone, Sinequan, Doxepin, Surmontin, Trimipramine, Tofranil, Imipramine, Vivactil, Protriptyline, Wellbutrin, Bupropion, Zoloft (SSRI), and Sertraline. As you can see there are enough that if for some reason one does not work for you, there is a good chance that another one will. Do not give up hope if one medication does not work for you. Some of the uncontrollable feelings you may have when you have depression is a feeling of restlessness, sad, hopeless, overwhelmed, cry a lot, lack of energy, eat too much or too little, sleeping to little or too much, trouble remembering, or making decisions, low self esteem, los of interest in everyday activities, withdrawal from family and friends, headaches, chest pains, heart palpitations, or hyperventilation. Depression can and is caused by many things and for some the cause is from more than one cause. You may not have a clue as to what caused your depression but you do know things are not as they are supposed to be. Some people think things will get better in time without help and for many that is why they do not seek help. For others, depression can get so bad that it is effecting family members and friends and can get so severe that it becomes dangerous. If the victim does not get help something very serious can happen that can not be fixed. This is the best reason why anyone who thinks they may be depressed should seek help so they can begin treatment before it is too late. Depression is nothing to be ashamed of because over 2 million people in the United States alone suffer from Depression and it is not their fault. Depression is believed to be caused from a chemical imbalance in the brain. No one knows what causes the imbalance but it can effect your way of life by upsetting your daily activities and habits. It can effect those around you if you do not seek help. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
