Major Depression Major depressive disorder is also known as depression. Depression can disrupt your life in many ways as well as affect those around you and your job or relationships. There are symptoms which will help a doctor diagnose depression. Some of them are feelings of sadness, lack of interest in everyday activities or hobbies that used to make you happy, lack of energy, tired feeling most of the time, sleep disorder (lack of or sleeping too much), appetite disorder (eating less or more than usual), rapid weight loss or weight gain (about five pounds a week or more), restless, cannot concentrate or make decisions, feeling worthless, hopeless, or guilty, thoughts of suicide or death. If you are having one or more of these symptoms it is recommended that you seek professional help. Your doctor can take a few tests and ask a few questions and diagnose what form of depression you might have if you have depression, and if so the doctor can subscribe the proper therapy or medication for you. Depression can be helped but it will not happen overnight. There are many anti depressants for depression and the doctor will help you find the one for you and your system. What works for some will not work for others so it may take a while to get you on the one that can help you and have no side effects. If you begin taking an anti depressant prescribed by your doctor and you have side effects, let them know it so they can get you onto another one that will not cause side effects. The body makeup is different for everyone so you may have side effects and the next person may not. Stay in contact with your doctor so they can find the medication that is suited for you. If you have side effects from the medication prescribed, contact your doctor as soon as possible. Talk to your doctor and keep them informed of your feelings and how or if the medications are helping you. If the depressed individual has other severe illnesses or have problems taking medications, the doctor will recommend Hypnotherapy. It can do great things for the depressed. And will help those who cannot take medications for one reason or another. There are many prescription medications (name brands and generic) for the different forms of depression and there are also alternative medications. Some of the prescribed medications are Paxil, Pertofrane, Prozac, Remeron, Serzone, Sinequan, Doxepin, Surmontin, Tofranil, Vivactil, Wellbutrin, Zoloft, and many generic medications. Some of the alternative medications are Kava Kava, Clarocet (alternative medicine for children between the ages of seven to thirteen), Valerian Root (for stress and anxiety), Passion Flower (sedative and mood stabilizer), St. John’s Wort, and Hyperforin. If you prefer alternative medication, talk to your doctor about it. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
