If you try to buy ephedra tea in the United States you may have trouble finding it now. The Federal Court banned ephedra in the US in 2006 the Food and Drug Administration provided proof that ephedra was causing too many serious illnesses such as heart attacks and strokes as well as deaths. The FDA had received over 1,000 reports of hospital emergencies and at least 17 deaths related to products which contained ephedra from 1007 until 2006. The FDA also had some of the products tested for the amount of ephedra in the products compared to what was listed on the labels of the bottles. The tests resulted in some products containing more ephedra than was listed and some contained less than was listed on the labels. There were even some that contained no ephedra at all. The reports showed that some people were still suffering from ephedra with as little as 8 mg of ephedra taken per dose. Some suffered heart attacks, strokes, and even death. Others suffered with high blood pressure, rapid heart beat, irregular heart beat, insomnia, nervousness, tremors, seizures, allergies, hives, itching, nausea, vomiting, psychosis, and more. The different names for ephedra are Chinese Ephedra, Epitonin, Ma Huang, Mormon Tea, Squaw Tea, Desert Tea, and Herbal Ecstasy. It is found in the desert regions around the world. Since it has been banned, ephedra has been replaced with other herbal ingredients which works as well as ephedra but do not product the side effects that ephedra did.
