Ephedra Attorneys San Diego

You can find attorneys in the San Diego area that will take ephedra cases if you live in that area and have suffered from products which contained ephedra. You can do a search on one of the search engines and get a list of lawyers in that area or you can find one by talking to family or friends who have had this type of lawsuit before. There is a statute of limitation on these types of cases so you should do it as soon as possible. There have already been many who have received compensation from suffering serious illnesses from ephedra or have lost a family member because of ephedra. There are also many lawsuits pending and more being filed everyday across the nation. Ephedra was banned for the first time in 2003 after the Food and Drug Administration had received over 800 reports of strokes, heart attacks, and some deaths from products containing ephedra. These reports were gathered from 1994 until 2003. Some people felt that ephedra was not dangerous like the FDA claimed so they filed a petition in 2004 with the Federal court to get the ephedra ban lifted. The court agreed with the people and lifted the ban in 2005. The court decided that the FDA did not have enough evidence that ephedra was dangerous when taken in small amounts of less than 10 mg. So the FDA continued collecting reports of over 1,000 hospital emergencies and at least 17 deaths from 1997 until 2006. The reports showed that heart attacks and strokes were still happening even when as little as 8 mg of ephedra was used. The FDA had some of the products, which contained ephedra, tested for quantity of ephedra compared to what was listed on the labels of the products. The results showed more or less ephedra in the dose than what was stated on the label of some of the products. Some products had ephedra on the labels but contained no ephedra at all. With the reports and evidence the FDA collected, ephedra was banned again in 2006.

Ephedra has been used for over 5,000 years by the Chinese for lung illnesses. It has also been used by the Native Americans, Mexicans, and Mormons for medicinal purposes. In recent years ephedra was used as a weight loss product, as an energy booster, as a sports performance booster, for asthma, colds, cough, congested lungs, bronchial tubes, and sinuses, and other medical reasons. There were many side effects reported from the use of ephedra. Most of the products which contained ephedra have either been discontinued or the company has replaced ephedra with a safer herbal alternative.
