If you have suffered a serious illness or have lost a family member because of a product which contains ephedra you may be entitled to compensation for your suffering and loss. There is a statute of limitations on this type of case so make sure you do not wait too long to file. There are many lawyers who will give you a free consultation so you can find out if you have a legitimate case without it costing you a bundle. Many people have already received compensation for their loss and you might be entitled to compensation too.

Ephedra was banned in the United States for the first time in 2003 because the Food and Drug Administration had received over 800 reports of strokes, heart attacks, and even some deaths from 1994 to 2003 caused by products which contained ephedra. Ephedra was the only common ingredient in all of the products named in the reports. Some people felt that the FDA was exaggerating about the dangers of ephedra so they got a petition together to get the ban on ephedra lifted and filed it with the Federal court in 2004. The court sided with the people and agreed that the FDA did not have enough evidence to warrant a ban on ephedra so the ban was lifted in 2005. The FDA received over 1,000 reports of hospital emergencies and at least 17 death reports from 1997 to 2006 from users of products which contained ephedra. After having some of the products tested the FDA found that some of them contained more and some less ephedra than was stated on the labels of the products. Some contained no ephedra at all although it was listed as an ingredient on the label. The FDA took their information the had collected back to the court and got ephedra banned again in October 2006. Many products which once contained ephedra have replaced ephedra with another ingredient which is much safer but works as well as ephedra did.

Ephedra can be lethal or at least life threatening if mixed with aspirin (willow bark, salicytes, salicylic acid) or caffeine (kola nut, guarana, cocoa extract) and some of the products which contained ephedra also contained one or both of these ingredients as well. Ephedra is also known as Ma Huang, Herbal Ecstasy, Squaw Tea, Mormon Tea, Desert Tea, Epitonin, and Chinese Ephedra.
