Healthy Alternatives Health Weight Loss Program Ephedra Some companies have replaced ephedra with healthy alternatives for a better health and weight loss program. Ephedra was banned in the United States in 2003 and again in 2006 so many companies have either replaced ephedra with other ingredients or they have discontinued their products which contained ephedra. There have been too many people suffer serious health issues such as heart attacks and strokes and even some deaths from using products with ephedra. There were just too many reports so the Food and Drug Administration had to get ephedra banned before many more suffered as well or worse, lost their lives. Ephedra is a shrub found in the desert regions around the world and has been used by the Chinese for over 5,000 years and for many years by the Native Americans, Mormons, and Mexicans for medicinal purposes. It has also been made synthetically. been used for a weight loss product, as an energy booster, as a sports performance booster, for asthma, common cold, cough, congestion of the sinuses, lungs, and bronchial tubes, plus more. The side effects of ephedra are heart attacks, strokes, seizures, high blood pressure, insomnia, allergies, nervousness, tremors, itching, anxiety, nausea, vomiting, psychosis, rapid heart beat, irregular heart beat, death and more. Some people did not think that ephedra was dangerous so they filed a petition in 2004 to get the ban on ephedra lifted. The court lifted the ban in 2005 stating that the FDA did not have enough evidence to prove that ephedra was dangerous if used in small doses of less than 10 mg. per dose. The FDA received over 1,000 reports of hospital emergencies and at least 17 deaths from 1997 to 2006 of people who used ephedra products. There were reports of people suffering from strokes and heart attacks even when they used as little as 8 mg of ephedra. The FDA had some of the products tested and found some products contained more and some less ephedra than was stated on the labels. The FDA took their reports and findings and filed them with the court and in October, 2006 the Federal court banned ephedra in the United States for the second time. Some of the products that previously contained ephedra but are now ephedra free are Metabolife, Metabolite, Metabolift, Ripped Fuel, Stacker 2, Stacker 3, Stacker Lite, Trimspa, Diet Fuel, Energy Fuel, Everslender, Lipodrene, Hydroxycut, Xelerate, Phentramin, Zantrex, and many more. These products have replaced ephedra with a much safer alternative. Some of the weight loss products have replaced ephedra with the much sought after Hoodia Gordonii. Hoodia Gordonii comes from a cactus like succulent found in the Kalahari desert in South Africa. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
