Interaction of Zoloft and Ephedra

The interaction of ephedra with zoloft and other products can cause serious health problems. Ephedra does not mix well with some medications and can be lethal when mixed with some. Ephedra has been banned in the United States because it has many side effects possible, some of them very serious. Ephedra does not have to be mixed with something else to be dangerous to your health. The Food and Drug Administration received over 800 reports of heart attacks and strokes as well as some deaths from 1994 to 2003 from the use of products which contained ephedra. Ephedra was the only common thread to the products. In 2003 the Federal Court banned ephedra in the United States. Some people did not agree to this decision so they filed a petition with the court in 2004 to get the ban on ephedra lifted. In 2005 the court agreed with the people and lifted the ban on ephedra. They felt that the FDA did not have enough evidence to prove that ephedra would be dangerous if used in less than 10 mg per dose. More reports continued to pour into the FDA about ephedra and the serious heart attacks, strokes and other serious health issues even when taken in small doses of 8 mg. The FDA decided to have some of the products containing ephedra tested and the results were interesting to say the least. Some of them contained more and some contained less ephedra than was stated on the labels of the bottles. Some of them contained no ephedra at all but it was listed in the list of ingredients on the labels. There were over 1,000 reports of hospital emergencies and at least 17 deaths reported to the FDA from 1997 to 2006 so they gathered their data they collected and the reports and filed them with the court again and in October 2006, the court again banned ephedra in the United States.

Ephedra can be lethal or at least life threatening if used with aspirin (willow bark, salicytes, salicylic acid) or caffeine (kola nut, cocoa extract, guarana) and some of the products contained all three ingredients. Ephedra was used as an energy booster, weight loss aid, as a sports performance booster, for asthma, congested sinuses, congested bronchial tubes or lungs, common cold, cough, fever, and many other purposes. The Chinese have been using ephedra for over 5,000 years and the Native Americans, Mexicans, and Mormons have also used ephedra for many years for medicinal purposes. Other names for ephedra are Chinese Ephedra, Ma Huang, Mormon Tea, Squaw Tea, Desert Tea, Epitonin, and Herbal Ecstasy. The Ephedra plant is found in different desert regions around the globe.
