Twinlab With Ephedra Twinlab with ephedra no longer exists. Twin Lab has replaced the ephedra with another ingredient in all of their weight loss products. Some of the Twin Lab products are Diet Fuel, Energy Fuel, Everslender, Metabolift, Ripped Fuel. None of them contain ephedra anymore. The Food and Drug Administration got ephedra banned in the United States in late 2006 so many other companies which had products that contained ephedra are replacing ephedra with other ingredients which are known to be much safer but will work as well as the ephedra did. Over 1,000 medical emergencies and at least 17 deaths were reported to the FDA from 1997 until 2006 because of ephedra products. In most cases the problems happened after exercise or strenuous workout. Products with ephedra were used for weight loss, as a sports performance booster, as an energy booster, and for medicinal purposes such as a treatment for asthma, congested bronchial tubes or lungs, sinus congestion, common cold, cough, and other purposes. Ephedra was proven to be dangerous even in small doses as small as 8 mg. Many people have been compensated for their loss and many others have filed lawsuits and are awaiting the results. Ephedra has been used for over 5,000 years by the Chinese and has also been used by the Native Americans, Mexicans, and Mormons for years for medicinal purposes. The Ephedra grows in desert areas around the world so it explains the different names it is known as. Ephedra is also called Squaw Tea, Mormon Tea, Desert Tea, Chinese Ephedra, Herbal Ecstasy, and Epitonin. It has been recorded to be one of the oldest medications used by the Chinese. There are many side effects that have been experienced from the use of products containing ephedra. Some of these are increased heart rate, irregular heart rate, heart attacks, strokes, insomnia, anxiety, high blood pressure, allergies, itching, hives, nausea, vomiting, psychosis, seizures, nervousness, and tremors. Ephedra can be lethal or life threatening if it is combined with aspirin (willow bark, salicytes, salicylic acid) or caffeine (guarana, kola nut, or cocoa extract) and some of the products contained one or both of those ingredients as well as ephedra. Ephedra is a perennial shrub and the stems are dried and ephedra is extracted from it. After it is extracted from the plant it is a white, odorless powder or crystalline alkaloid. The botanical names for ephedra are Ephedra Sinica, Ephedra Intermedia, and Ephedra Equisetina. There are four different members of the ephedra family. These are Ephedrine, Nor-Pseudo-Ephedrine, Nor-Ephedrine, and Pseudo-Ephedrine which is the weakest form. Since the findings of the FDA have surfaced, it makes sense that others have suffered before but it went unreported or it was not known that ephedra might have been the cause of others suffering in the past.
