Affordable Health Insurance

There is no such thing as affordable health insurance unless you make a lot of money. There are millions of people who do not have any health insurance coverage because they can not afford it and the companies they work for do not offer it as a work incentive. Health insurance is very expensive and the only ones who can afford it are in the middle or upper class bracket of income. The United States Government helps some lower income families by providing them medicaid for their children but it does not cover every medical illness or medication that some might require. There are many different health insurance plans that people can choose from depending on their individual or families needs. Some people need maternity insurance, others do not. Some need insurance for themselves and their families while others need only health insurance for themselves.

There are a few companies who offer health insurance to their employees as an added incentive along with their wages but there are not many of them that will pay the whole premium. Many companies will pay a portion of the premiums for the employee but the employee is responsible for the balance (often half of the premium) plus the co-payment, plus the deductible which can sometimes be a very large amount and usually has to be paid yearly before the health insurance kicks in. Even then the health insurance companies will often only pay about 50 - 80% of any given medical bill and the individual is responsible for the rest if the health care doctor or hospital does not agree to accept the insurance payment as payment in full.

Health care charges have gotten completely out of hand and hospitals and doctors are often double charging for some services the individual receives and charging outrageous amounts for service and medications received. It is very strange that our government can put a cap on utility companies and not let them overcharge the public but the doctors and hospitals can charge whatever they like, especially to those who are not insured. It doesn’t make much sense that they would charge the uninsured more than the insured because if the uninsured could afford to pay for the health insurance premiums, they would have insurance. This is the case for many people anyway. There may be some younger people who do not feel that they need health insurance because they do not anticipate getting sick often enough for the need of the expensive insurance premiums. Little do they realize that if they have one accident or illness that required hospitalization, it could result in medical bills in the thousands and they would spend many years paying the bills. It is not a realistic situation either way.
