Health Care Costs Health care costs continue to rise and the government is doing nothing about it. It is no wonder people cannot afford health insurance, medical, and medication bills. The cost of medical services and products increase so the cost of health insurance increases. Add that to the rising costs of gasoline, food, and everything else, the poor, low income people do not have a fighting chance. It is not right to say that they can better themselves by getting better jobs. Someone has to do the labor jobs or this country would be in trouble. Not everyone can have a desk job or a job as a computer expert as some may think. Who would wait on them when they go out to eat? Who would help them in the service stations when they purchase gas? The point is that it takes many different people doing many different occupations and many of those occupations are going to pay minimum wage, or maybe a little more, no matter how high gas or health care prices go up. This leaves these people to suffer and go without health care because they cannot afford it. The government needs to reform the health care system and put a lid on the costs of medical services and medications. The hospitals, doctors, and drug companies are making a mint in profits because of overcharging and double charging. They overcharge individuals and also the insurance companies too. The only difference is the health insurance companies will only pay a set amount and the rest falls onto the individual to pay if the medical people will agree to accept the insurance amount as the full amount and drop the rest. There are other countries that are not nearly as well off that have full healthcare coverage for their citizens at no cost to them. If the United States is one of the richest countries in the world, where is all of that tax money going to? Oh sure, they help a few low income people who have children in the home or someone who is disabled and getting SSI income, but what about the other millions who have no insurance at all. They have to suffer because the government is wasting the tax dollars. Even the medicaid program does not cover all of the medical needs of those who are getting the assistance. There are some medical services and some medications that they will not pay for. The children are not getting all of the medical care they need. It is a shame that the United States can not learn something from other countries. America spends more money on research and less on the health of the people. What good is the research if there is not going to be anyone left to treat? All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
