Health Care Management There are many health care management agencies across the United States. Home health care has fast become very popular among the elderly. Many of them prefer staying in their homes and getting assistance instead of being uprooted to nursing homes, senior citizens apartments, or assisted living homes. It is believed that the elderly are much healthier and less stressed out if they can stay in their own homes where they are familiar with the surroundings and their own belongings. Many times an elderly person is placed in a home and they do not survive very long and it is believed, in part, that the surroundings has something to do with it. It is a great thing that they have the options to do this if they want to. The person has to be fairly healthy and able to assist themselves somewhat. They can not be bedridden or have serious health issues that require around the clock nursing, etc. Home caregivers will assist the individual in cooking meals, light housekeeping, companionship, possibly driving the individual to and from doctors appointments or to run errands for them. It depends on the agency the employee works for and the needs of the individual, as to what the list of duties will be. In some cases you may be required to help the individual get dressed or aid them in oral hygiene. You will be required to exercise (walk) with them, play games or do arts and crafts if the individual is able to do this type of thing and is interested. The object is to keep them happy and as healthy as possible so they can live out the rest of their lives as normal as possible. Their needs are dealt with in the most comfortable way possible so they are not stressed out. It is very hard on some elderly people because they are irritated because they find they can no longer do many things they used to so it is hard for them to accept the fact that they need help. Caregivers do not get paid a large income because it is still considered by the government as a form of babysitting. There is a lot more involved in this task than there is in babysitting but they are not smart enough to figure that out yet. They do not care what the duties and responsibilities of the caregiver are and until they realize it, the wages will remain low. Some of the companies do offer health insurance after you have worked for them for a specified amount of time and they also pay mileage you have to travel on the job. This does help some but the wages should be much better because this job can be very stressful sometimes because you are dealing with an adult, not a child. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
