Mesothelioma Clinic

Over the past several years, there have been increases in Mesothelioma diagnoses. This has also prompted an increase in clinical trials and research into this deadly disease that claims so many lives each year.

Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is caused by inhaling the dust from products containing asbestos. There is a latency period that could be up to 30 years. So some people exposed back in the 70’s or 80’s may now just be getting symptoms of Mesothelioma. But the sad news with all of this is that once you start getting symptoms and are diagnosed with Mesothelioma, the survival period is only a matter of months. This makes it a horrific disease. Something that takes years to develop and surface can kill a person within a matter of months.

Effective research is important. The hopes are that one day a cure or treatment will be found for this disease. In clinical trials, people are given treatments to determine what, if any, side effects are associated with it and what the outcome of the treatment is.

The United States now have several clinics and hospitals that are dedicated to doing research and finding treatment options for Mesothelioma as well as other types of cancer. These cancer centers focus on research, trials, treatments, education and support.

There are several kinds of cancer centers that hone in on one particular area. Generic cancer centers focus more on the basics of Mesothelioma. Clinical cancers centers concentrate on research that is based on more advanced science. And last, there are Comprehensive cancer centers that center on all aspects of Mesothelioma such as research, education, support and treatment.

There are several specialists in a variety of areas that make up the teams at these cancer centers. They are trained professionals in areas such as oncology, pathology and radiology. They are all working hard to maybe one day make Mesothelioma a curable disease.

The main setback in cancer centers is funding. It takes a lot of money to keep these cancer centers going. Most of the money that they do get goes towards research. Many of these cancer centers are government funded but sometimes that is just not enough. Many of these centers rely on donations from businesses and the public to survive.

There has been no cure for Mesothelioma as of today but these cancer centers give patients who have been diagnosed with Mesothelioma a lot of hope and support. If nothing else, they get support not only from trained medical professionals but from others who are coping with the same disease.
