Alcohol Rehab

There are many rehab centers for people who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. You can find one close to your area by checking your yellow pages or by doing a search online. There are rehab centers in every large city and in many medium sized cities. Everyone should be able to find one within 50 miles of their home. The government also has programs to help those who need help and can not afford it so you or whoever you know might qualify for assistance with the cost involved. When someone enters a rehab center there are different detox steps needed and medications might be a part of one of them. There is physical detox, emotional detox, and medical detox.

In 1998, alcohol was the cause of more than half of all traffic fatalities. Often a person will drink and then think they are not drunk so they will drive a vehicle and the end result is often times a wreck and sometimes people are killed or injured seriously. The people who drink alcohol should never drive and should always choose a designated driver, someone who is not drinking , to take them home. If there is no one available, the drinker can call a cab or have someone call a cab for them.Or they should make plans to stat they night where they are if it is in someone’s home.

There has been tests on alcoholics and it has been found that a heavy consumption of alcohol leads to neurodegeneration, death of brain cells, reduced brain tissue mass, and damaging effects such as lack of impulse control. Alcohol will affect different people in different ways depending on their size, weight, sex, body build, and metabolism. Some people can drink 2 beers and be drunk and others may drink a six pack and still not be drunk. It also depends on the amount of alcohol in the drinks or beer.More than 100,000 people die each year that are alcohol related. Women become more intoxicated than men when they have used the same amount of alcohol.

Alcoholics will almost always deny that they have a drinking problem. Sometimes it takes a serious event in their lives before they will finally admit that they have a drinking problem. Some people have both an alcohol and a drug problem. The problem is that the individual has to admit that they have a problem and they have to want to stop their habits and better their lives. In order to do this they need to admit themselves to a rehab so the professionals there can help them. If they do not get the help they need, they are not likely to get well. It is good when the family and friends want to help and they should support the individual all the way but the professionals need to take care of the detox process and everything else associated to it.
