When she was 13 she got her first guitar and when she was 16 she gave her demo first tape to a friend who was soul singer Tyler James and he gave it to an A&R person. She was discovered and her career of a professional singer began at the young age of 16. She is signed under the Island/Universal management company. In early 2006, her demo tracks “Wake up Alone” and “Rehab” were played on Mark Ronson’a New York Radio show on East Village Radio. Both of these songs were on her second album. “Back to Black” went to number 1 on the UK charts and was number 7 in the USA. This was the highest debut entry for an album by a British female solo artist. That title didn’t last long however. Just two weeks after that Joss Stone debuted when her song hit number 2.
