Dietary Supplements There are many dietary supplements available on the market today. Supplements are made from all natural plants or animal products and contain no synthetic drugs or additives such as preservatives or coloring. The more natural the product, the better and safer. It has been discovered that many products contain too much sugar, salt, preservatives, artificial coloring and other ingredients which are not good for the health and well being of the body. Many people have turned to natural diet supplements to make them healthier or to preserve their already healthy body. Some take all natural diet supplements to lose weight without the side effects that most prescription diet pills cause. Ephedra is an all natural herb but it was banned in the United States in 2006 because it was causing some very serious health issues and some deaths when used. Even though it has been used for over 5,000 years for medicinal purposes, it was found that even small doses as little as 8 mg caused heart attacks and strokes in some users. Many people were using ephedra products as a weight loss product, as an energy booster, and as a sports performance booster. It was also used for asthma, cough, common colds, fever, congestion of the sinuses, lungs, and bronchial tubes, and other medicinal uses. There were just too many severe side effects to ignore it so it was banned. Most of the products which contained ephedra have replaced their products with another natural supplement and others have discontinued their products which contained ephedra. Many people used ephedra as a weight loss product because it helped them lose a lot of weight in a short period of time. Ephedra increased heart rate and energy so it increased thermogenesis and aided in weight loss. Some of the products replaced ephedra with Hoodia Gordonii which is a very sought after diet pill which can stand alone without any other ingredient. Hoodia Gordonii comes from the natural herb found in the Kalahari Desert in South Africa. Other well known diet supplements made to help weight loss are green tea, citrin, chitosan (from shellfish), gymnema sylvestre extract, white kidney bean extract, chromium picolinate, pyruvate, cayenne, bromelain, apple cider vinegar, l-carnitine, and more. There are diet supplements for nearly every health problem you might have or to prevent health problems. Multi vitamins are very important for everyone because they help balance the system when we don’t eat right. Supplements also help fight viruses and diseases and help cleanse the system. They can help reduce the illness so that it is less serious than it would be if you did not take vitamins. You should discuss the use of diet supplements with your doctor if you have existing illnesses or are taking medications.
