Herbal Nutrition Supplement There are many herbal nutrition supplements on the market today and they serve different purposes. When you are thinking of using herbal supplements you should know some of them are not for everyone. Before you buy any herbal supplements you should do some research and find out what they are and what they do. If you have some health problems or are taking certain medications some herbs should not be taken. You should discuss the supplements with your doctor if you are pregnant or nursing or if you have health problems and are taking prescription or over the counter drugs. The FDA does not have the authority to approve herbal supplements but they can get them banned or discontinued if they cause serious health issues. Ephedra is a good example of this. Ephedra was being used in weight loss products, energy boosters, as a sports performance booster and as a medication for many health issues. There were reports that ephedra had killed people, caused serious side effects such as strokes and heart attacks so the FDA gathered enough evidence to get ephedra banned in the United States in 2006. Ephedra caused many more side effects. Herbal supplements are being used by some as complementary and alternative medicine because of their all natural qualities. Many people do not have health insurance and can not afford the expensive prescription drugs the doctors suggest for them so they are resorting to herbal and other all natural supplements. Supplements are generally much cheaper, have much less or no side effects, and can be purchased without a prescription. Plus many people believe that supplements are much purer than drugs so are much healthier for you. Many drugs will help fix one part of the body but in the meantime it destroys some of the other body parts. Drugs are controlled by the FDA but that doesn’t mean they are good for you. Some people feel that it is more of a control issue than the fact that they actually care for our safety or wellbeing. There are many commercials on television about different drugs and nearly every one of them have the potential to destroy your kidneys, liver of cause heart attacks, etc. It doesn’t make much sense why it is ok to sell drugs that destroy our bodies and it is not ok to use supplements that have the potential to help us. Many doctors are even recommending herbal supplements for some of their patients because they are beginning to see what our ancestors have known for thousands of years. Just because you believe that a certain herb or supplement is good for you does not make you a witch or witchdoctor. If there was enough research done it might be possible that we could all learn from our ancestors. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
