Iodine Supplements


There are iodine supplements but do you really need them? Iodine is a trace mineral which functions in the synthesis of the thyroid hormone. This is very important for the regulation of growth and energy. Seafood such as seaweed and algae are just two of the many seafoods which contain iodine. Iodized salt is the most common source of iodine in our diet. Iodine supplements are rare and not necessary but it may be added as a thyroid support in supplements for enhancing weight loss. Proper amounts of iodine is necessary to regulate the thyroid hormone that regulates metabolic rate. Iodine enables the thyroid gland to produce thyroid hormones. An iodine deficiency can cause hypothyroidism and developmental brain disorders and severe goiter. Less severs iodine deficiency causes hypothyroidism and too much iodine causes hyperthyroidism.

If you use iodized salt there should be no need for any other iodine supplement in your diet. In some countries the iodine is scarce in the soil and there may be a need for an iodine supplement. Multi vitamins may also supply the daily iodine needed to keep a healthy thyroid. Discuss the use of iodine supplements with your doctor before you decide to use it. You may not need it. If you have a healthy thyroid you do not need any extra iodine. You do not want too much in your system or you will have an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism) and that can cause serious problems just as having an underactive thyroid. Your doctor can give you some good advise on this.

The food we eat is full of chemicals, additives, preservatives, and who knows what else. A lot of the food we eat has no nutrient value at all. We can take multi vitamins every day and they will , in many cases, give us the needed vitamins, minerals, and nutrients we are lacking to balance out our systems. There are supplements for our blood, heart, lungs, kidneys, liver, prostrate, impotence, menopause, pain, pancreas, skin, eyes, memory, ears, hair, and more. There are supplements to detox the body and rid it of the free radicals that invade it. These supplements will cleanse your digestive system and urinary tract. You can maintain a healthy body if you take your multivitamins, eat a proper diet, and exercise.
