Trimspa Sues Anna Nicole Smith Group of people sues Anna Nicole Smith and the Trimspa weight loss company. The Trimspa weight loss company had been hurting for years from lack of sales. Then in 2003 they hired Anna Nicole Smith to be their spokesperson because Anna Nicole had made the comment that she had lost 69 pounds in about 8 months while taking Trimspa diet pills. Anna appeared in the Trimspa commercials and banner ad campaigns and the sales soared for several years. Some feel that the only way that Trimspa survived was because of Anna Nicole. Anna Nicole was in the limelight for many years. She was Playboy Playmate of the year in 1993, married the 85 year old rich millionaire J. Howard Marshall in 1994, had her own reality television show about an overweight rich woman from 2002 to 2004. Since then there has been the news the birth of her daughter in September, 2006 and the death of her son three days later. Anna Nicole was the spokesperson for Trimspa from 2003 until her unexpected death in February of this year. The sales of the Trimspa diet pills increased for several years after Anna became the company’s spokesperson, but for the last three years the sales again decreased more each year. Many feel that it is due to the negative publicity the company is getting and the lawsuits and fines against the company. People were suing the company because of false advertising and the misleading statements the company and Anna Nicole made about the diet pills. The pills just were not working the way people were led to believe they would. It was learned that Anna Nicole had taken other aids to help her lose weight at the same time she was taking the Trimspa diet pills. It is not known if she was still taking Trimspa at the time of her death. Anna Nicole was named first in some lawsuits filed against Trimspa. It is believed that she was named first in the suits because she was the Trimspa’s spokesperson. The company was fined $1.5 million by the Federal Trade Commission for false advertising and not having the scientific proof to back up their statements they made about their diet pills. The company agreed to pay the fine but claim it was not an admission of guilt, it was to stop the investigation by the Federal Trade Commission which had been going on for two years. Some people are wondering what the future of the Trimspa company will be or how long it will last. There are still lawsuits pending and sales are way down because the pills just do not work for most people. There are some who claimed they lost a few pounds but gained them back plus more after they stopped taking the pills. Some had to stop taking the pills because they experienced one or more side effects from the pills. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
