Weight Loss Surgery There are several methods of weight loss surgery to choose from but weight loss surgery is not meant for everyone. Weight loss surgery is designed for those who need to lose over 100 pounds and their health is in danger because of their excess weight. It is up to the doctor and patient to determine if it is safe for them to have the surgery. Many people can not have the surgery because they already have health problems that would make it too dangerous for them to have the surgery. There are many weight loss products on the market for those who need the extra help to lose weight when surgery is not an option for them. It always falls back on the need for exercise on a regular basis and also on the diet you use. It is important to eat foods that do not contain fats, sugars, and are high in calories. On average it is better to eat 1500 to 200 calories only per day. Fruits and vegetables, fish, skinless chicken, and turkey are very healthy for you when prepared without fat. Bariatric surgery is an effective weight loss treatment which gives patients the ability to lose at least 50 % of their excess body weight and not suffer from any negative effects. Most people who have bariatric surgery are able to maintain and keep off at least half of the excess body weight. It is believed that certain health problems can be improved or even resolved with bariatric surgery. These conditions are type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, dyslipidemia, osteoarthritis in weight bearing joints, depression, sleep apnea, extremity venous stasis, gastroesophageal reflux (heartburn), infertility, incontinence, menstrual problems, asthma, skin breakdown, and swollen legs or skin ulcers. It is believed that by having the surgery, the patient will increase their life span. The amount of weight the patient will lose after surgery depends on the patients age, weight before surgery, your health condition, surgical procedure, ability to exercise, commitment to maintain a diet and follow up assistance, and have help and motivation from family , friends, etc. There are advantages of having weight loss surgery but there are also some risks involved. There may be tearing in the stomach wall which may require further surgery. There may be access port leakage or twisting which may require further surgery. There may be nausea, vomiting, outlet obstruction, pouch dilation, the band may migrate or slip, and you may not get the feeling of being full like you should so you do not eat too much. The advantages of the surgery are the amount of food you eat. You should eat much less than you did before the surgery. The band can be adjusted to increase or decrease restriction and the surgery can be reversed if needed. All Text Copyright © Safety2005.org |
