Hoodia Gordonii Plant

The race is on to get some of the real pure 100% Hoodia Gordonii plant. It has been said that the plant may be in short supply, and there are a few products on back order from some of the suppliers, however there may not be as short a supply as some may think. If there is a written in ink notice of short supply, it must be hidden. One would think there would be proof somewhere instead of just rumors. The threat of a shortage may be just a ploy for people to buy more right now so the black marketers can line their pockets quicker.

There are large plantations of Hoodia Gordonii being farmed in Southern Africa to ensure there will be enough supply to keep up with the demand. Just because one company is a little behind on orders doesn't mean everyone is and it doesn't mean there is a shortage. It could mean that the company needs to hire more help to manufacture more quicker.

The pure Hoodia Gordonii plant is found in Southern Africa in the Kalahari Desert. It grows in spiny finger like clusters and gets anywhere from 18" to 24 " tall. The plant has pinkish like purple blooms that have a foul odor. The stem, when chewed, has a slightly bitter cucumber like flavor. The Hoodia Gordonii plant is not a cactus as some might think by its appearance but is instead a member of the cacti family called a succulent. It stores in its roots and stems much like the cactus however because it has to have nourishment in the dry season in the desert.

The bushmen used the Hoodia Gordonii as food and medicine when going on hunting trips into the desert. They would eat or chew on the Hoodia stem. This allowed them to go for long extended periods of time without food or water. There was not much food in the desert so this was their way of survival. Scientists in South Africa discovered that P57, which is the molecules in the Hoodia Gordonii and only in the Hoodia Gordonii plant. There are many different species of the Hoodia plant. Many of them have been researched and found to contain no P57 in them.

There are Hoodia products being manufactured from Hoodia plants in other parts of the world but it is yet to be determined if they contain P57 because there hasn't been any research documented or at least not known to date. Maybe one day it will be established as to whether there is P57 in the plants from China, United States, Mexico and possibly other countries. In the meanwhile it might be wise to buy products that are manufactured from the known pure 100% all natural Hoodia Gordonii from Southern Africa.
